8000 B.C.

The first incarnation of beer is recorded

4500 – 1000 B.C.

The first known beer recipe is recorded – it’s over 5000 years old!

800 -1100 A.D Beer spreads through Europe during the Viking invasions

1100 – 1400 A.D Commercialisation of beer began. Hops are added as an ingredient.

1500 A.D

Lager was accidentally discovered.

1600 - 1700 A.D London became the biggest brewing city in the world – beer became big business!

1800 – 1900 A.D Technology & scientific advances started to influence brewing- and made it better!

1900 – 1980 A.D Two world wars caused ingredient shortages – America had prohibition – breweries closed.

1980’s Light beers became popular. The first shoots of the craft beer revolution appear.

1990 – 2000’s Pale Ales and IPAs explode onto the scene – the craft beer revolution is in it’s prime!

2010 London starts the return to being one of the biggest brewing cities with 100’s of breweries opening.

There are now 100’s of beer styles, 1000’s of brewers and 100,000’s of beers brewed around the world!
